Madrasah Entrance Test (MET) Preparation — Giving Your Child the Best Foundation

For many Muslim families in Singapore, the Madrasah Entrance Test (MET) is a significant milestone — and the preparation for it begins much earlier than most parents realise. At Ilham Childcare, our Kindergarten programme includes a dedicated MET preparation pathway, giving children the Arabic language foundation, Quran literacy, Islamic knowledge, and Malay language skills they need to enter Madrasah confidently.

We do not just prepare children for a test. We build the genuine Islamic foundations that will serve them for life — in Madrasah, in school, and in their character as young Muslims.

Understanding The Test

What Is the Madrasah Entrance Test (MET)?

The MET is administered by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) to place students into Singapore’s six full-time Madrasahs. It assesses children typically at Primary 1 entry age on their Arabic language, Quran recitation, Islamic knowledge, and Malay language ability.

Our Curriculum

Our MET Preparation Pathway: A Journey, Not Just a Test

The difference between a child who is ready for Madrasah and one who struggles begins years before the MET itself. Ilham’s approach recognises this, which is why MET preparation at Ilham is not a last-minute cram programme — it is a structured, progressive journey that begins at infant care and builds naturally through every stage.

Infant Care & Playgroup (2 months – 3 years)

The foundation years. Children are immersed in Arabic sounds, Islamic nasheeds, and Quranic recitation from their very first days at Ilham. This early exposure builds the neural pathways and emotional connection to Arabic and the Quran that makes formal learning far more natural later.

  • Daily Quran recitation in the room — babies and toddlers absorb Quranic sounds naturally
  • Arabic greetings and simple phrases woven into every caregiver interaction
  • Islamic nasheeds and Quranic audio throughout the environment
  • Du’a (supplications) for daily activities — eating, sleeping, going out

Nursery N1 & N2 (3–4 years)

Structured Islamic learning begins. Children start engaging with Arabic as a language — not just as sounds — and begin their formal Quran learning journey.

  • Introduction to Arabic alphabet (Huruf Hijaiyah) through games, songs, and activities
  • Quran recitation: short surahs memorised with correct pronunciation
  • Islamic studies structured around the 5 pillars — age-appropriate introduction
  • Malay language reinforced through storytelling, reading, and creative activities
  • Character development (Akhlaq) through stories of the Prophets and Companions

Kindergarten K1 (5 years) — MET Preparation Begins in Earnest

K1 is where Ilham’s MET preparation programme becomes most structured. Children who have come through our infant care and nursery are already significantly ahead — familiar with Arabic, confident with Quran, and grounded in Islamic values.

  • Arabic reading and writing: Huruf Hijaiyah mastered; simple Arabic word formation
  • Quran: Juz Amma progression — short surahs with Tajweed principles introduced
  • Islamic Knowledge: Aqidah basics (Who is Allah? Who is the Prophet?), Rukun Islam, Rukun Iman
  • Ibadah: Solat movements and understanding introduced; wudhu’ taught and practised
  • Malay literacy: Reading sentences and simple paragraphs; comprehension exercises
  • English and Mandarin: Continued immersion for bilingual cognitive development

Kindergarten K2 (6 years) — Final MET Readiness

K2 consolidates all MET preparation components and brings the child to a level of genuine readiness — not just for the test, but for the rigour and expectations of full-time Madrasah education.

  • Arabic: Reading and writing connected text; vocabulary building; comprehension exercises
  • Quran: Extended recitation with Tajweed; surah memorisation target of 10–15 short surahs
  • Islamic Knowledge: Expanded Aqidah, Sirah (Prophet’s biography), Islamic manners revision
  • Ibadah: Full Solat understanding including recitations, pillars, and sunnah elements
  • Malay: Reading comprehension, writing simple sentences, vocabulary in academic contexts
  • MET practice: Simulated assessment activities to build familiarity and confidence

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions — MET Preparation

At what age should MET preparation begin?

The earlier the better. Children who begin their Islamic education from infancy arrive at Kindergarten already ahead in Arabic familiarity and Quran exposure. At Ilham, we believe MET preparation is not a K2 activity — it is a journey that begins on Day 1. Families who enrol their children from infant care or Nursery have a significant advantage by the time K2 arrives.

Do I need to enrol my child from infant care for them to benefit from MET preparation?

Not at all. Children who join Ilham at K1 or K2 benefit from our dedicated MET programme regardless of where they have been before. However, children who have been with Ilham since Nursery or earlier typically reach K2 with a noticeably stronger foundation.

Does Ilham guarantee MET success?

We are honest with parents: no centre can guarantee MET results, as the test is administered externally by MUIS. What we do guarantee is that every Ilham K2 graduate will receive a genuinely strong, well-rounded Islamic education covering all MET components — and that they will be far more prepared than peers from general childcare centres.

Which Madrasahs do Ilham graduates typically go to?

Ilham graduates have gone on to all six full-time Madrasahs in Singapore. We are happy to share more information about Madrasah pathways during your centre tour or via WhatsApp.

Can children who are not going to Madrasah still benefit from the Islamic curriculum?

Absolutely. The vast majority of what we teach at Ilham — Quran, Islamic knowledge, Arabic, and character development — is beneficial for every Muslim child, regardless of whether they sit the MET. Many families choose Ilham because they want a strong Islamic foundation for their child’s character and faith, not just for Madrasah preparation.
